Abu Dhabi Airports has reinforced its position as a driver of economic growth and global connectivity, recording double-digit passenger traffic growth for the 17th consecutive quarter along with robust increases in flight movements and cargo volumes in the first half of 2025.

From 1 January to 30 June 2025, the airports under its network welcomed more than 15.8 million passengers, reflecting a 13.1% rise compared to the same period in 2024. Zayed International Airport (AUH) accounted for the majority of this traffic, handling 15.5 million passengers, a 13.2% year-on-year increase.

In terms of aircraft movements, the five airports together recorded 133,533 flights, up 9.2% from H1 2024. At AUH alone, aircraft movements rose 11.4% to 93,858, compared to 84,286 flights in the first half of last year.

Expanding Global Connectivity

Abu Dhabi Airports continued to strengthen its global network, adding 16 new destinations and welcoming new airline partners during the first six months of 2025. Key developments included:

  • China Eastern Airlines launching four weekly flights to Shanghai, with daily services starting in September.
  • Air Seychelles commencing six weekly flights.
  • Fly Cham beginning operations to Damascus.
  • IndiGo expanding routes from AUH to Madurai, Bhubaneswar, and Vishakhapatnam, making the airport its most connected hub in the UAE.

CEO on Resilient Growth

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “The first six months of this year have posed some operational challenges, yet our exceptional mid-year results demonstrate the resilience of our network and the collaborative partnerships that underpin our growth. Consistently delivering positive growth for the past 17 quarters is testament to the dedication and collective effort of the entire Abu Dhabi Airports team. It reflects our operational agility and commitment to delivering an exceptional aviation experience and attracting international investors. As Abu Dhabi’s tourism and trade prospects rapidly advance, our airports are well positioned to support and scale that growth.”

Cargo Expansion and Strategic Collaborations

Cargo handling also witnessed significant progress, with 344,795 tonnes processed in the first half of 2025. Growth was supported by key strategic initiatives, including a joint venture with JD Property, the infrastructure arm of China’s JD.com. This collaboration will establish a 70,000 sqm advanced logistics facility, designed to serve rising e-commerce and specialised cargo demands across the GCC and wider MENA region.

Infrastructure Enhancements and Recognition

Several milestones were achieved across the airport network in early 2025:

  • Sir Bani Yas Airport completed rehabilitation works, boosting eco-tourism in the Al Dhafra Region.
  • Zayed International Airport earned the 3 Pearl Estidama rating for construction and was named the Best Airport at Arrivals Globally for the third consecutive year at the ACI ASQ Awards.
  • Al Bateen Executive Airport advanced its collaboration with Bombardier, moving forward on a dedicated service facility to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) capabilities.
  • A new agreement with TAQA Distribution will support the integration of next-gen utility technologies, furthering sustainability and innovation.

Focus on Long-Term Growth

Looking ahead, Abu Dhabi Airports remains committed to expanding global partnerships, advancing infrastructure upgrades, and fostering sustainable innovation. These efforts will continue to support the UAE’s broader strategy of economic diversification and its ambition to be a global leader in aviation.
