Aurika Mumbai Skycity Secures IGBC Platinum Certification

In a proud moment for India’s green hospitality movement, Lemon Tree Hotels has announced that Aurika, Mumbai Skycity has been awarded the prestigious Platinum Certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This milestone not only marks a significant environmental achievement but also underscores the group’s long-standing commitment to sustainable hotel development and operations.

A Green Leap in Under Two Years

Launched less than two years ago, Aurika, Mumbai Skycity now stands as India’s largest hotel by inventory with a remarkable eco-footprint. The hotel’s Platinum Certification is the first in the group, adding to the 15 existing Lemon Tree hotels that have achieved IGBC Gold Certification.

This success has been made possible by adopting a comprehensive sustainability strategy right from the design and construction stages. The initiatives range from energy and water conservation to air quality control and effective waste management systems, all focused on minimising carbon emissions.

Raising the Bar for Green Hospitality

With this addition, 16 out of Lemon Tree’s 41 owned hotels are now IGBC-certified—accounting for 57% of its total owned room inventory (3,260 rooms). This accomplishment brings the company closer to its ambitious goal of 100% green-certified hotels by 2026, a vision rooted in environmentally responsible construction and operations since 2012.

Speaking on the occasion, Patanjali G Keswani, Chairman & Managing Director, Lemon Tree Hotels commented, “We are honoured and delighted to be the recipients of this prestigious award and it reinforces our focus on ESG even more. This recognition by IGBC further authenticates our commitment. Our design approach looks at building hotels sustainably and is centred on reducing the carbon footprint of each hotel. Aurika, Mumbai Skycity employs eco-friendly practices, such as energy-efficient systems, water conservation & recycling, renewable energy, waste management programmes and the use of sustainable materials wherever possible. This recognition would go a long way to motivate us to remain steadfast in our effort to certify all our hotels, as we have been building all our owned hotels to IGBC’s Gold specifications since 2012.”

Where Sustainability Meets Style

Strategically located just minutes from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Terminal 2), Aurika, Mumbai Skycity is more than a green hotel—it’s a cultural and architectural experience. Designed in a mid-century modern style, the property evokes the glamour and nostalgia of the 1940s–50s, celebrating Mumbai’s architectural legacy and golden film era through its interiors and art.

A Destination for Conscious Travellers

For today’s mindful travellers, Aurika offers the best of both worlds: luxurious comfort and a sustainable ethos. Whether you’re in Mumbai for business, leisure, or transit, this hotel sets a new benchmark in how hospitality can honour both the planet and the guest.
