Centre Allocates 48 Seaplane Routes for Kerala: A Boost to Tourism and Connectivity
Kerala’s tourism sector is set for a transformative leap forward as the Centre has allocated 48 new routes for seaplane services in the state. The announcement was shared by Kerala Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas, who confirmed the development through a Facebook post, calling it a major milestone for enhancing regional connectivity and tourism infrastructure.
A Major Step Toward Kerala’s Seaplane Project
According to Tourism Minister Riyas, preparations are underway to develop the basic infrastructure required to operationalise seaplane services across the newly allotted routes. This marks a significant step in Kerala’s long-term plan to introduce seaplane travel as a modern, efficient, and scenic mode of transportation for both tourists and locals.
The project aims to improve accessibility to prominent tourist destinations, lakes, backwaters, and remote regions that have limited connectivity through conventional transport.
- Airlines Allocated for Seaplane Operations
- The 48 routes have been allotted to four operators:
- IndiaOne Air
- Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt. Ltd. (MEHAIR)
- Pawan Hans Limited (PHL)
- SpiceJet
These airlines are expected to bring expertise in regional aviation and amphibious aircraft operations, boosting confidence in the successful rollout of the seaplane services.
What This Means for Kerala Tourism
The introduction of seaplane services is anticipated to:
- Enhance tourism experiences by offering aerial-aquatic connectivity across Kerala’s iconic water bodies
- Reduce travel time between key destinations
- Open new opportunities for adventure tourism
- Support remote communities by improving last-mile access
- Strengthen Kerala’s position as a leading global tourism destination
The initiative aligns with the state’s vision of expanding tourism offerings through sustainable and innovative transport solutions.
A New Era of Travel for God’s Own Country
With infrastructure planning underway and operational routes now officially approved, Kerala is set to enter an exciting new chapter in aviation tourism. Once launched, the seaplane services will offer travellers a breath taking way to explore the state flying over emerald backwaters, lush landscapes, and serene coastlines before landing on water.
The project reflects Kerala’s commitment to pushing boundaries and embracing fresh avenues to elevate visitor experiences.
