India Introduces FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles Starting August 15
In a move set to revolutionize road travel in India, the Union Government has announced the launch of a new FASTag Annual Pass, beginning August 15, 2025. Unveiled by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the initiative is aimed at making highway travel faster, simpler, and more economical for millions of private vehicle owners across the country.
What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The new system introduces a one-time payment option of ₹3,000, which will allow owners of private cars, jeeps, and vans to make up to 200 trips across any national highway toll plaza in India over the course of a year. After reaching the trip limit or the end of the validity period—whichever comes first—regular FASTag toll charges will resume as usual.
This annual pass offers a significant cost-saving opportunity for frequent highway travellers and is expected to ease congestion and reduce overall travel time.
Easy, Paperless Activation
The FASTag Annual Pass will be available online starting Independence Day (August 15, 2025), offering a seamless and paperless experience. Users will be able to purchase and activate the pass digitally, without the hassle of physical documentation.
Union Minister Gadkari shared the announcement via his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the pass as a forward-looking solution to improve toll management and commuter convenience.
Why It Matters
With India’s national highways witnessing increased traffic, this upgrade to the FASTag system is poised to benefit a wide range of travellers—from daily commuters to weekend explorers. By reducing repeated toll charges and simplifying the payment process, the FASTag Annual Pass aligns with the government’s broader push toward smart mobility solutions and efficient transport infrastructure.
