IndiGo and BIAL sign MoU to establish MRO facility in Bengaluru

IndiGo has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), reinforcing its ongoing commitment to strengthening operational capabilities at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. As part of this agreement, BIAL will allocate approximately 31 acres of land to IndiGo for the development of a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. This infrastructure will support the airline’s growing fleet and will be equipped to service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, enhancing IndiGo’s maintenance capacity and operational footprint at the Bengaluru airport.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “Partnering with BIAL underlines our shared commitment to drive long-term growth of the aviation ecosystem in Bengaluru and cement its status as, amongst the best and world-class international hubs in India. Together with BIAL, we are further shaping the future of Indian aviation by focusing on innovation, growth and global connectivity that will define India’s leadership in the skies. We see this collaboration as a pivotal step towards building a significant global presence for IndiGo, as well as for India”

Hari Marar, MD & CEO, Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) said, “We have had a very successful, long-term relationship with IndiGo, and this collaboration further strengthens our association with the airline. This is a strong validation of the growth potential of BLR Airport and the City of Bengaluru as a premier aviation hub. The partnership reinforces our commitment to developing world-class aviation infrastructure and enhancing BLR Airport’s role as India’s premier aerospace and MRO hub. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Karnataka for their continued support in making this collaboration possible and enabling us to drive forward the next phase of aviation-led growth for the region.”

The MoU also includes plans for broader collaboration in areas such as network growth, infrastructure upgrades, and joint marketing efforts. With a fleet of over 400 aircraft, the establishment of a dedicated MRO facility is expected to offer significant benefits including increased aircraft availability, improved cost efficiency, and reduced turnaround times — advantages that will ultimately benefit both the airline and its passengers. Moreover, the new MRO facility is anticipated to contribute to the growth of the aerospace and defence industry in Karnataka. IndiGo currently operates MRO facilities in both Delhi and Bengaluru
