IRCTC Launches ‘Bharat-Bhutan Mystic Mountain Tour’ Starting June 28, 2025

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced a new 14-day tour package titled Bharat-Bhutan Mystic Mountain Tour, beginning on June 28, 2025. This immersive journey is designed to showcase the stunning landscapes and rich cultural legacy of Northeast India and Bhutan.

Tour Itinerary Overview:

  • Departure: The tour sets off from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station with a train ride to Guwahati, Assam.
  • Guwahati: Upon arrival, participants will visit the revered Kamakhya Temple, located atop the Nilachal Hills. From there, the journey continues by road toward Shillong.
  • Shillong: On the way, there’s a scenic stop at Umiam Lake, known for its natural charm. Once in Shillong, the tour includes visits to the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Ward’s Lake, and the Don Bosco Museum.
  • Cherrapunji: A full-day excursion to Cherrapunji follows, featuring attractions like Mawsmai Caves, Nohkalikai Falls, and the Seven Sisters Falls. On the return to Shillong, travellers will also stop at Elephant Falls.

Bhutan Leg of the Journey:

  • Entry Point: After exploring Meghalaya, the group proceeds to Hasimara Railway Station in West Bengal, the nearest rail link to Bhutan. After completing immigration procedures, the tour enters Bhutan via Phuentsholing.
  • Thimphu: The first destination in Bhutan is the capital, Thimphu. Highlights here include Buddha Point, home to a massive statue of Shakyamuni Buddha; the Motithang Takin Preserve, which shelters Bhutan’s national animal; the National Library; Thimphu Handicraft Market; and a visit to the Tashi Chho Dzong, a significant religious and administrative site.
  • Punakha: On the way to Punakha, a halt at Dochula Pass is planned. In Punakha, guests will explore the majestic Punakha Dzong, located at the meeting point of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers.
  • Paro: The final destination is Paro, where tourists will visit the National Museum, Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, Paro Dzong, the base of the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, and Lamperi Royal Botanical Park. The Bhutan segment also includes a cultural show and the experience of a traditional hot stone bath.
