Jammu Tourism Department Set to Launch Commercial Paragliding by 2025
The Jammu Tourism Department is preparing to give the region’s skies a thrilling new identity with the launch of commercial paragliding in Aitham by early next year. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing adventure tourism in Jammu and positioning the region as a hub for adrenaline-fueled experiences in North India.
Adventure Tourism Takes Flight in Jammu
The upcoming paragliding project at Aitham, located about 19 km from Jammu city, aims to attract adventure enthusiasts from across the country. The site has already undergone successful trial flights, showcasing its potential as a safe and scenic destination for paragliding.
The take-off point offers sweeping aerial views of the Jammu landscape, while the landing zone is set along the serene sand bed of the Sardhan stream. The trial flights have clocked approximately four minutes of flight time, offering a thrilling yet beginner-friendly experience.
Empowering Women in Adventure Sports
Beyond its tourism potential, the project is also a story of empowerment and determination. Leading the charge is Dolly Sharma, the only woman pilot among 20 trainees preparing to fly professionally. Her participation reflects the growing representation of women in India’s adventure sports sector.
Sharma’s journey embodies courage, passion, and perseverance, inspiring a new generation of female adventurers to break barriers and explore the skies.
Boosting Jammu’s Adventure Tourism Landscape
The launch of commercial paragliding is expected to significantly boost tourism and local employment in the region. Jammu, often regarded as the gateway to the Himalayas, has immense potential to become a year-round adventure destination.
With the state government’s continued focus on developing eco-adventure tourism, projects like paragliding at Aitham are set to complement other outdoor experiences such as trekking, river rafting, and nature trails.
Aitham: The Next Adventure Hotspot
Aitham’s picturesque terrain, accessibility, and weather conditions make it an ideal location for paragliding. The Jammu Tourism Department is also planning to develop infrastructure and safety measures to ensure a seamless experience for visitors and pilots alike.
Adventure seekers visiting Jammu in 2025 can soon look forward to soaring above the scenic valleys, enjoying breathtaking panoramic views, and embracing the thrill of flying.
A New Chapter for Jammu’s Tourism Vision
The introduction of commercial paragliding aligns with Jammu Tourism’s broader vision to diversify its tourism offerings beyond pilgrimage and heritage travel. By integrating adventure sports into its portfolio, the department aims to attract younger travellers and international tourists seeking authentic, high-energy experiences.
With paragliding ready to take off in Aitham, Jammu is poised to redefine itself as a destination where nature, adventure, and empowerment come together in the skies.
