Mleiha National Park (MNP), one of the UAE’s most remarkable eco-tourism destinations, stands as a shining example of conservation and cultural preservation. Located in Sharjah, this 34.2-square-kilometre protected area invites visitors from around the world to immerse themselves in breathtaking desert landscapes while connecting deeply with nature.

A Vision Rooted in Heritage and Sustainability

Established by Emiri Decree under the leadership of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), MNP is a landmark conservation success. The park forms part of the Core Zone of the Faya Palaeolandscape project, which was recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, highlighting its global cultural significance.

A Treasure Trove of Human History

Mleiha is a rare archaeological gem, showcasing more than 210,000 years of continuous human history. Visitors can explore Paleolithic tools, a 4,500-year-old Umm an-Nar tomb, and more than 1,500 unique artifacts that trace humanity’s journey through the desert. With UNESCO recognition, the site has gained renewed international attention as a cultural and natural treasure.

Rich Biodiversity and Conservation Efforts

Beyond its archaeological heritage, Mleiha is home to diverse desert wildlife. Conservation initiatives safeguard:

  • 11 mammal species including Sand Gazelles and Arabian Red Foxes
  • 10+ reptile species such as the Sandfish Skink and Arabian Horned Viper
  • 20 bird species including Bonelli’s Eagle, Pharaoh Eagle Owl, and Purple Sunbird
  • 39 species of arachnids and insects, such as the Arabian Fat-Tailed Scorpion and Blue Pansy Butterfly

Adding another layer of wonder, fossils dating back 93–65 million years reveal ancient corals, marine fossils, and unique limestone formations.

Eco-Adventures in the Desert

Mleiha offers a balance between preservation and exploration, turning its biodiversity and history into unforgettable experiences. Visitors can enjoy:

  • Desert hiking trails
  • Guided archaeology tours
  • Fossil hunts
  • Thrill-seeking adventures like dune bashing
  • Paragliding at the UAE’s first licensed desert paragliding center

Why Mleiha Stands Out

Few destinations in the world can match Mleiha’s blend of history, natural beauty, and adventure. It’s not just a park but a living museum of culture, wildlife, and landscapes, making it a must-visit for eco-tourism enthusiasts, history lovers, and adventure seekers alike.
