PM Modi Unveils ₹1,400 Cr Rail Projects to Power Gujarat’s Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually inaugurated three transformative rail infrastructure projects and a new passenger train service from Ahmedabad, marking a significant step forward in Gujarat’s socio-economic growth. According to Western Railway, the projects, worth ₹1,400 crore, will greatly enhance connectivity and support regional development.
The inaugurated projects include the Mahesana–Palanpur doubling (65 km), gauge conversion of Kalol–Katosan Road (37 km), and the Bechraji–Ranuj rail line (40 km). Collectively, these projects aim to improve train operations, increase passenger convenience, and strengthen freight movement in the region.
Flagging Off New Train Services
Alongside the rail infrastructure upgrades, Prime Minister Modi also flagged off the Katosan Road–Kadi–Kalol–Sabarmati passenger train, which commenced its inaugural journey from Kadi station. This new passenger service is expected to provide a much-needed boost in local mobility, offering affordable and efficient travel for daily commuters and enhancing regional accessibility.
In addition, the Prime Minister also inaugurated a car-loaded freight train from Bechraji station. The move underscores the government’s focus on strengthening freight logistics, which plays a crucial role in industrial growth and trade facilitation across Gujarat.
Driving Socio-Economic Development
Western Railway highlighted that these projects will give a strong push to Gujarat’s socio-economic development by improving connectivity for passengers while also bolstering freight capacity. Enhanced rail infrastructure is expected to support industrial hubs, create new employment opportunities, and improve accessibility to remote areas.
By combining passenger convenience with freight efficiency, the projects reflect the government’s broader vision of developing Gujarat into a key hub for infrastructure and economic growth. With these developments, Gujarat’s rail network is set to play a pivotal role in driving regional progress and supporting India’s growth story.
