Preparations in full swing for Manipur’s Sangai Tourism Festival returning after two years
After a two-year pause, Manipur’s celebrated Sangai Tourism Festival is making a grand comeback. The festival, one of Northeast India’s most vibrant cultural events, is a key platform to promote the state’s tourism, art, and heritage. Officials have confirmed that preparations are in full swing, promising a spectacular revival of the annual extravaganza.
Preparations in Full Swing at Hapta Kangjeibung
At Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal, the main venue of the event, dozens of workers are busy giving the grounds a festive makeover. Labourers are repainting structures, erecting decorative installations, and setting up temporary stalls that will host local artisans, food vendors, and cultural exhibits.
Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure smooth execution. Both state and central police forces have been deployed around the venue to maintain safety and streamline the flow of visitors during the event.
A Celebration of Manipur’s Cultural Essence
The Sangai Festival, named after Manipur’s state animal the rare and endangered brow-antlered deer “Sangai” showcases the rich diversity of Manipuri culture. It brings together local crafts, traditional performances, indigenous cuisine, adventure tourism, and ecological awareness under one vibrant platform.
After the hiatus, the 2025 edition of the festival holds special significance as it symbolizes the resilience and spirit of Manipur’s people and their dedication to preserving their cultural heritage.
Reviving Tourism and Community Spirit
Tourism officials expressed optimism that the festival’s return will boost the state’s tourism economy, attract national and international visitors, and reinforce Manipur’s place as a must-visit cultural destination in Northeast India.
With enthusiasm building up across the state, the Sangai Festival is poised to once again celebrate the essence of Manipur a land where nature, tradition, and artistry coexist beautifully.
