Purana Qila Sees Tourist Surge with Introduction of Boating Services

Delhi’s iconic Purana Qila, one of the capital’s most historic landmarks, has witnessed a significant rise in tourist footfall following the launch of boating services by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Boating Adds New Charm to Purana Qila

The boating service, which officially commenced on September 1, 2025, has quickly become a major attraction for both domestic and international visitors. The tranquil water body surrounding the centuries-old fort now offers visitors a chance to enjoy scenic boat rides against the backdrop of Delhi’s living history.

Boost from Delhi Zoo Closure

Officials noted that the temporary closure of the Delhi Zoo, located adjacent to Purana Qila, has also contributed to the growing tourist influx. Many visitors who would typically spend time at the zoo are now flocking to the fort, drawn by the newly introduced boating experience.

A Step Towards Enhanced Visitor Experience

Although a trial run of the boating facility was held earlier this year, the official launch marks a new chapter in enhancing visitor experiences at Purana Qila. Beyond being a historical site, the fort is now positioning itself as a leisure destination, blending heritage with recreation.

Purana Qila: A Heritage Gem of Delhi

Dating back to the 16th century, Purana Qila is among Delhi’s oldest forts, known for its imposing walls, Mughal architecture, and lush surroundings. With the addition of boating, it now offers tourists yet another reason to explore its cultural and natural charm.

👉 Travel Tip: If you’re planning a heritage walk in Delhi, don’t miss the chance to experience the serene boating ride at Purana Qila a perfect way to soak in history and leisure in one visit.
