Radisson Hotel Group has officially opened Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, one of the first two hotels in the world to earn the prestigious Verified Net Zero certification, awarded by TÜV Rheinland. This recognition highlights the Group’s strong commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and marks a significant milestone in sustainable hospitality.

Transformation and Central Location

The 118-room property has been completely refurbished, transitioning from its former identity as Park Inn by Radisson into a modern Radisson RED experience. Positioned in the heart of Oslo, the hotel now features redesigned guest rooms, vibrant social areas, a fully equipped gym, and six meeting rooms with state-of-the-art audiovisual facilities. Guests are also within walking distance of some of the city’s most popular landmarks, including the Oslo Opera House, Munch Museum, and Aker Brygge.

What Verified Net Zero Means

Radisson RED Oslo City Centre’s Verified Net Zero certification reflects its ability to eliminate emissions from energy (Scope I and II) and reduce operational emissions (Scope III). The hotel runs entirely on 100% renewable energy, powered through renewable electricity and district heating sourced from sustainable solutions like waste-to-energy systems and data centre heat recovery. Remaining emissions are offset with carbon removal certificates, supporting Nature Based Solutions and regenerative farming practices across Europe.

Sustainable Initiatives for Guests

Visitors to the hotel will experience a variety of eco-conscious practices integrated into daily operations, such as:

  • Full reliance on renewable energy sources
  • Low-carbon dining options created with Klimato
  • Food waste tracking using eSmiley software
  • Redistribution of surplus food through Too Good To Go
  • Zero-waste initiatives, including glass water bottles in place of plastic
  • Bulk bathroom amenities to minimize single-use packaging
  • Digital tools to cut down paper usage
  • Recycling stations throughout rooms and public areas

These efforts ensure that every guest stay is both comfortable and environmentally responsible.

Leadership’s Vision

Commenting on this achievement, Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group, stated: “Pioneering the first two Verified Net Zero hotels is a significant milestone for Radisson Hotel Group. By transforming hotels in operation to Verified Net Zero status, we are demonstrating that Net Zero conversion hotels are not only possible, they are essential. With 80% of the buildings that must reach Net Zero by 2050 already built, it is critical that we move quickly to transform existing properties. We are happy to be able to deliver the pinnacle of sustainable hospitality to our guests.”

Expanding the Net Zero Portfolio

The opening of Radisson RED Oslo City Centre follows the Group’s first Verified Net Zero hotel in Manchester, introduced earlier this summer. Together, these properties demonstrate Radisson’s pioneering role in redefining the hospitality sector through sustainable and future-ready solutions.
