Sri Lanka Witnesses Tourism Surge in 2025, India Emerges as Top Source Market
Sri Lanka’s tourism revival remains robust in 2025, with over 10.5 lakh tourist arrivals recorded by April, as per the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). Indian tourists are leading the influx with 2,10,074 visitors, followed by Russia (1,10,818) and the UK (98,158).
This upward trend continued into May, which saw 1,32,919 international arrivals — an 18.5% increase compared to May 2024. Early data from June shows 21,293 tourist arrivals in just five days, with India once again topping the chart at 6,014 visitors, making up 28.2% of the total.
In June alone, 1,884 UK nationals, 1,277 Chinese, and 1,173 Bangladeshi tourists also explored the island. Sri Lanka continues to attract Indian travellers thanks to cultural affinity, geographical proximity, and affordable cuisine.
Iconic sites such as Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the Temple of the Tooth remain key draws for global tourists.
This tourism boom marks a strong post-pandemic comeback, with India playing a significant role in driving Sri Lanka’s travel sector forward.
