Tawang Enhances Tourism Oversight and Safety Measures
Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo held an important meeting with key tourism stakeholders to enhance the region’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination. Highlighting the need for collective responsibility, she called for active cooperation in managing tourism—particularly the movement of foreign visitors in sensitive areas. She reiterated that national security would remain the top priority.
The meeting included representatives from the military, police, and district administration, along with members of the Hoteliers Association, Taxi & Tour Operators, Homestay Owners, and Market Welfare Committee. Stakeholders emphasized the need for clear and standardised guidelines for the entry and activities of foreign tourists in strategic areas. The Deputy Commissioner assured that these concerns would be forwarded to higher authorities for official directives.
During the monthly NCORD (National Committee on Drug Control) meeting, SP DW Thongon shared a positive update on the district’s crime status. Since a major arrest last year, there have been no new drug-related cases. Night patrolling has intensified, and surveillance infrastructure is being strengthened.
Police officials urged community groups to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activity, underlining that public safety and responsible tourism remain key pillars of Tawang’s development strategy.
