Tourism currently contributes nearly 16% to Rajasthan’s GDP, with the state setting an ambitious target of raising this share to 20% by 2030. On a national scale, tourism accounts for about 5% of India’s GDP, with a goal of 7% by 2030. Rajasthan has witnessed a notable surge in foreign arrivals- 96.57 lakh international tourists visited in the last fiscal year, marking a 21.92% increase compared to 2023. Additionally, the state hosted 7.88 lakh foreign tourists in just the first quarter of 2025.

Boost from Global Tourism Marts

The consistent rise in international tourist numbers is largely attributed to the state tourism department’s participation in prominent international travel exhibitions such as IFTM Top Resa (France), JATA Tourism Expo (Japan), World Travel Market (UK), FITUR (Spain), and ITB Berlin (Germany). These platforms allow Rajasthan to showcase its offerings globally in collaboration with hotel associations, tour operators, and other stakeholders, creating visibility and employment opportunities.

Strategic Focus for the Next 3–5 Years

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, Rajasthan aims to further strengthen its global appeal by encouraging repeat tourism, promoting responsible travel, and expanding experiential tourism.
According to Rukmani Riar, Commissioner of Rajasthan Tourism, the state is adopting a “One District, One Tourist Destination” strategy, ensuring tourists discover fresh and distinctive experiences. Religious circuits are being developed to cater to domestic travelers, while adventure and film tourism are positioned as key draws for international markets.

Rising Rajasthan Initiative and Investments

As part of the Rising Rajasthan campaign, 1,329 MoUs have been signed in the tourism sector. Currently, 1,320 proposals worth ₹100,675.96 crore have been approved, with the potential to create over 2,04,000 job opportunities.

Beyond Palaces and Heritage

Rajasthan is positioning itself not just as a sightseeing destination but as an immersive cultural experience. Its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Ramsar wetlands, and wildlife sanctuaries such as Ranthambhore underline the state’s commitment to conservation and sustainability.
Cultural events including the Pushkar Fair, Maru Mahotsav, and Camel Festival highlight Rajasthan’s vibrant traditions. Meanwhile, initiatives like Cultural Diaries at Jaipur’s Albert Hall Museum celebrate local art, and the Tourist Assistance Force ensures visitor safety and confidence.

Tourism Infrastructure Development

Every district in Rajasthan is being mapped for new tourism opportunities. The state is currently implementing major projects including:

  • A ₹145 crore Central Government allocation for Jal Mahal and Amer-Nahargarh (Jaipur).
  • Swadesh Darshan 2.0 projects in Bundi and Jodhpur.
  • Development of Malaseri (Bhilwara) and Karni Mata Temple (Bikaner) under the PRASAD scheme.

Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism

The tourism department emphasizes inclusive growth, ensuring that benefits extend across the spectrum-from luxury hotels and homestays to artisans, urban traders, and local transport providers.
To promote sustainability, guides, drivers, and stakeholders undergo regular training. Initiatives such as the Responsible Tourism Awards and collaborations with UNESCO focus on preserving Western Rajasthan’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Measuring Success with KPIs

The department organizes flagship events like the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) and the Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart, using stakeholder feedback to shape future strategies. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as tourist satisfaction scores, length of stay, hotel occupancy, and industry feedback guide long-term tourism planning and policy.
